How About Defining A Pet?
There seem to be a lot of people out there that get a bit confused when it comes to what a pet is, and there is a lot of confusion out there.
The official definition of a pet is an animal kept for companionship and enjoyment or of course a household animal. Things that do not come under the pet category include working animals, lab animals, livestock and sport animals, lets not forget wild animals also.
To put things into a proper example it is best to think of a farm. Think about it for a moment, cows, chickens are the livestock and working animals and the horses would be sports animals and mice wild, you then go onto the cats and dogs which are the pets!! Of course the reason I have left out lab in this one is because you would hope there is not really any lab work going on in the background of these places.
When thinking of a pet think about what a vet could see and what they couldn't. Although you will find most vets out there can easily take a look at a wild bird they would prefer to look at pets such as a reptile vet. Thinking about those vet referrals is very important indeed.
So now that you know what a pet is what are some of the most popular ones out there to go after buying?
The dog and cat are the most popular ones but is this really much of a surprise, the other ones at the top are the birds, equine the fresh and saltwater fish and lets not forget the ones like reptiles and other small mammals.
It is worth knowing that the more out there your pet is the harder and more expensive the animal surgery will be if it comes to needing treatment!
