Puppy mills are commercial dog-breeding operations - some on a massive scale, others are Mom-Pop backyard, basement or garage set-ups. Profit is given precedence over quality. The physical, mental and social nicely getting from the young puppies and reproduction stock puppies are not important. All that matters may be the bottom line.
Responsible breeders location priority on producing the healthiest, happiest, and most well adjusted young puppies achievable; sparing no expense. Sanitation is definitely an unnecessary expense.
I hear more and more about pup mills everyday. It makes me sick to my stomach, and it makes my heart hurt. Some people in this world have severe issues. A puppy mill is really a business, a facility which is created purely for profit, not to the well-being of dogs.
The breeding combinations are despicable. Fathers are bred with daughters. Brothers bred with sisters. Aunts bred with nephews. Uncles bred with nieces. Cousins bred with cousins. In-breeding or line reproduction it doesn't matter to a selfish puppy mill owner. The sole purpose of your pup mill should be to get rid of as a lot of young puppies to the highest cost possible.
These canines receive small or no veterinary care and under no circumstances see a bed, treat, toy, and certainly not go on walks. After their fertility wanes, propagation animals are normally killed, abandoned or offered to a different mill. The result of all this breeding is thousands and thousands of puppies, numerous with behavior and/or wellness problems.
Sadly, countless young puppies are culled (killed, usually inhumanely) for such defects as misshaped ears, tails, or legs. They are also destroyed for obvious breed disqualifications such as incorrect coat color or pattern or wrong eye color. Others are sold knowingly, with heartworm, or other parasitic diseases due to the fact there're kept in filthy outside cages or kennels. Putrid water can sit for days.
There is totally no rational justification for puppy mills.
The bulk of them are overcrowded, illness ridden, unsanitary and ruthless. Most often, the reproduction stock once "used up", if not slaughtered inhumanely or offered to research labs, will live the rest their short lives caged in unsafe, and unsanitary conditions. They will collect the least amount of low quality food required to sustain them.
Even on the outside chance the propagation stock and their puppies wind up within the hands of a Class B broker, they are going to obtain little or no veterinary care, usually leading to considerable medical problems. Dogs and young puppies that have certainly not been socialized with people, in particular children frequently have severe behavioral problems.
